Building Trust and Moving Forward

Yesterday was an awesome day!  We went with BC to his doctor’s appointments and were able to assist him with communicating with the nurses and doctors.  He was not feeling very well, got very dizzy at the last appointment and was having a hard time talking.  His voice was just a whisper.  We were able to have some hard conversations about what the next few months may look like as he works to regain his health.  These were done in a very loving manner, but we had to voice concern over his declining health and brainstorm some possible solutions.  There is some hope that with home health assistance, different therapies, changes in medication, diet and lifestyle that he will start the new year feeling much better, having more stamina and will have his voice back!

I heard from CC while driving back.  She is an amazing woman we met earlier in the year who has been working very hard to get back on her feet.  She is in a home, has two jobs and is working very hard to provide stability for herself and her children.  No matter what life throws at her, and it has thrown quite a bit over the last 7 months, she continues to move forward to the next step.  Unfortunately, she received news yesterday that CPS was contacted about her children being malnourished and not cared for properly.  CPS investigated and determined that the children are fine, there is an abundance of food, clothing and items for the children, much more than for herself. The children are above normal for their weight and size and have been thriving in her care.  The case is being dismissed.

As wonderful as the outcome is, she mentioned that this is the 5th time CPS has been called on the children since they were born.  There was a period of time after her children were born, that she understood the concerns that were voiced as she was not in a good place and was not able to provide the environment needed for her children to grow and thrive in.  Over the last year; however, she has worked very hard to get back on her feet and her sole purpose has been to provide a life that her children would grow and thrive in and she has done an amazing job!  I have witnessed how happy her children are in her presence and how close they are as a family. She is a wonderful Mom! It is quite the blow when one is working very hard to overcome challenges from their past, they are making great strides and then out of the blue, someone comes in and questions their ability to care for their children.  As with the other challenges that have come her way, she is using it as a stepping stone to continue moving forward.

Towards the end of the day, I received a text from SR.  Over the past few months, she has asked if she could come over and take a shower.  She has found a home to sleep in at night; however, they don’t have access to a shower.  She came over last night, had dinner, took a shower and we talked.  She was sleepy when she left and I’m hoping she got a very good nights rest and wakes up refreshed with a new outlook on today!
