Outreach
We meet every Saturday in Raleigh, NC, to walk around and meet individuals and families who are struggling financially and are in need of things that we tend to take for granted – a roof over our head, food to eat, transportation, etc. These are stories about the people we encounter each week as we get to know folks and build a community of people helping people!
Building Trust and Moving Forward
Yesterday was an awesome day! We went with BC to his doctor's appointments and were able to assist him with communicating with the nurses and doctors. He was not feeling very well, got very dizzy at the last appointment and was having a hard time talking. His voice...
Transportation Needs
One of the biggest needs we have come across when assisting folks (aside from housing) is transportation. Most of the individuals that are part of the outreach community do not have vehicles and rely on the bus to get groceries, go to doctor's appointments and to...
An Amazing Visit
I met someone who was referred to my business at a Starbucks where we have our outreach every Saturday. Afterwards, I visited with S.R, who seemed under the weather. I did not bring my chair as it was supposed to be a quick visit. She has not gotten much sleep and...
Receiving a Special Blessing
Each week when we walk around, we visit with RC. RC is in his 60's and has been in and out of homelessness. He enjoys seeing us each week and with each visit, we get a hug, an I Love You and on some weeks, tears that someone stopped by to check on him. At times, RC...
Mental Health Challenges and Community
This past weekend was a challenge hearing about and working with people who operated very strongly from their mind at the detriment of their well being. When we visit homeless camps and talk with individuals as we are walking around visiting, the one thing that is...
A Clean Homeless Camp Can Help To Make A Lasting Change
As we were walking around talking to folks yesterday, I came to a place where several folks who are homeless gather around and talk. It is in a parking lot that is not too far from a main road. Over time, chairs, mattresses and clothing have been brought there to...
Her Home was Towed Away
We met A. at the bus stop we walk to every Saturday. She seemed distraught. As we talked with her, we found out that she had been living out of her van and on a trip to Wilmington, her van was towed while she was in a store. She did not have the funds to get the...
Looking for a New Home
We received a call today from the landlord of BC. Unfortunately, where he is staying is not a good fit. Due to his health, BC needs to be on the first floor, in an environment without cigarette smoke, and with fewer roommates. We are on the search for such a place,...
Wanting a Better Life
I met JH while stopping to get gas one day. He was digging through the station's dumpster. I was with a friend and we stopped and gave him $20. We invited him to go to church with us the next day and he said he would go if we would pick him up. The next day, he was...
